I've talked before about using what you have to help you organize, but today I have a fun situation for you. A few years ago, I had a client with an amazing collection of Barbie dolls. She had an entire room dedicated to them. It was truly interesting to see how much the female icon of a toy has changed over the years. You could literally see time pass as you looked at each one. Well, with that many dolls she had boxes and boxes of them that she could not apreciate them very much because she could not easily see them. All of the floor in the room was covered with barbies. Some in original boxes (collectors) and some not (the ones to play with.) We went vertical.
One of the goals of the project was to let the owner be able to see the entire collection. So, standard shelving would not really work because the shelves would stick out too far or you would have multiple layers of Barbies that would be difficult to view.
Looking out of the box we agreed that baseboard molding might just do the trick. We took "L" brackets and a bunch of baseboard molding and shelves just the right width were created!

How is this for numerous Barbies on a wall? The great thing about this solution is that we were able to use ALL of the available wall space -- even the corners.
What have you done to use uncommon items to organize your space? I love hearing different ideas and I'm sure my other readers do too! Just comment below.
